.............................Update from Disney World

Not!! We didn't get to go. The airline wouldn't accept Kim's paper license as a valid government ID. She would have been able to get on the plane at SLC but we would have had to find an alternate route home. I called Amtrak and they wanted $1600 plus after I explained what was going on they also said they probably wouldn't accept the stupid paper the DMV gave us. So....I have 2 weeks off and can probably find lots to do.
I feel like the DMV screwed us and everyone else they did this to. They should have made some kind of announcement that they weren't issuing real drivers licenses anymore. We've lived here for 20 years and have always just gone in and picked up our license. We are disappointed but the airline gave us a credit for our tickets, plus an extra $150 per ticket and we had trip insurance on our Disney portion of the trip. We are thinking we will go in November or plan a trip somewhere else (my pick would be hawaii). We have time to think about it.
Also, the day before we were supposed to leave I got a bad sore throat, but figured I could take lots of airborne and ibuprofen. I think it just wasn't meant to be.
Happy birthday Kim (her birthday is March 2nd) We are going to go to Twin Falls for her birthday.

..............................Disney World update

4 more days!! Woo Hoo. The news at the DMV was good and bad. They told us that people are having trouble with the punched out drivers license (trouble using them for id getting through airline security). After much discussion they decided not to punch out the expiration date, which is what the airline is having trouble with. The license does expire on the second and we don't come home til the 6th so when we check in with Delta in SLC we are going to check with their security to make sure they will accept the expired license with the piece of paper saying it had been renewed (the piece of paper has a state seal on it). If they won't, we will either rent a car, or take the train home. Not the best and quickest way home, but at least we will get home. And what a better place to get stranded...Orlando.....sunny weather, disney world and lots to do.
I guess they only changed to this new system 5 weeks ago. They probably should have sent out notices to people who had expired licenses to let them know we wouldn't get a license on the spot.
Our original plan was to fly to Orlando and take the train home (then we decided it was much cheaper to fly), and at least if we know when we get on the plane in SLC we will have a week to make other arrangements.
So.....we are going to Disney World in 4 days!!!!! We can't wait.

Are we going or not?

5 more days til we leave for Orlando but something may put a crimp in it. Kim needs to renew her drivers license which she was planning to do in the morning. We found out this weekend that on Jan 1st our DMV stopped issuing new drivers licenses on the spot. You go in and pay for the license and they punch out the expiration date on the old one and give you a paper to proof you have renewed it. You receive the new license in 10 to 14 days. Kims license expires on March 2nd, in the middle of our trip. Problem???? Will they let her on the plane with the old license with the piece of paper attached. Does punching out the expiration date on the old license make it a not valid license. It clearly states you must have a valid government issued picture ID. She has a debit and credit card which both have her pic. Anyway...I wish someone would have mentioned it to me before this weekend, I have stressed the entire weekend.
Everyone tells me that it is valid until the real one comes, but maybe I just want to worry about something. Will update tomorrow after we go to the DMV. I am even willing to drive to Reno if they are issuing them on the spot there. Wish us luck!! I've already got it in my mind that we're not going and it's ok. We have trip insurance so won't lose our money, and I have two weeks off so it would be fun to be off and just relax. Either way, I still get to have a vacation so it can't be all that bad.

Disney World here we come!!

Only 12 more days until we go to Disney World! It has really snuck up on us. I am
getting nervous because of the recent plane accidents in the past month. Hope there is no snowy weather in SLC and no big birds in Orlando. Kim will celebrate her 24th birthday while we're there. I am taking my laptop so will try to update while we're there.
